Hey everyone (this may have sent twice so I do apologise!)
Welcome back to Craft Talk! So we’re talking ‘May’ I hope you’ve all had a chance to read it but if you haven’t then please head to my previous post.
So I said when I released this short story that I had an interesting craft talk for it and the biggest reason for that is that this short story didn’t come out anywhere near what I thought it would.
As always the short story started with a simple sentence that I then ran with until I finished writing. That simple sentence was ‘A spy who decided to continue carrying information despite the world around him changing.’ I liked the idea of somebody who had made their entire life about carrying secrets, or sneaking through country to country with different identities being faced with the unknown of a job going completely wrong and there being no way back to normality for him. But, the thing that stayed the same, the constant was that information is still viable in this world. That people are missing, people need things found or people found and that’s the skillset that this person has, the ability to set out on their own and find a person, carry some information from one to another. So, I knew going into this that it would either end up more action orientated or a slower piece about this man figuring out his place in this world and what I ended up writing leans closer to the latter but not in the way I thought it would.
